Your Septic Tank Company in Apopka, FL
Looking for a septic tank company Apopka homeowners can rely on near Wekiwa Springs? We clean, pump and repair tanks across Apopka and the unincorporated land around it. We also install aerobic units when the springs rules call for one. We explain those rules in plain words and file the Orange County permits for you.
What Septic Work Do Apopka Homes Need?
Most calls here fall into 3 groups. We clean and pump tanks, repair tanks and fields, and service aerobic units. The springs rules shape every one of them. A simple repair can turn into an upgrade on some lots, so a correct diagnosis matters.
Septic Tank Cleaning in Apopka
Our septic tank cleaning Apopka service goes further than a quick pump out. The crew removes the sludge and scum, breaks up crusted solids and washes the outlet filter. We also check the baffles and inlet while the lid is off.
How often? A 1,000 gallon tank serving four people usually needs it about every 3 years. Smaller households can stretch toward 5. We record the sludge depth so your next visit is based on facts.
Repairs and Drain Fields
We fix cracked lids, broken baffles and crushed pipes quickly. Drain field failures take more work. Before you book a big repair near the springs, read the next section. The type of permit can change what you are allowed to install.
Aerobic Unit Service and Alarms
Aerobic units use an air pump, a float and a control panel. When the alarm sounds, cut back on water and call. Most problems are a tripped breaker, a worn air pump or a stuck float.
So why do aerobic units come up so often here?

Why Are Septic Rules Stricter Near Wekiwa Springs?
Wekiwa Springs feeds the Wekiva River. The state says septic systems supply 29% of the nitrogen reaching the spring. Extra nitrogen feeds algae and harms the water. So the state drew a priority focus area around the springs. It covers parts of Apopka and much of the unincorporated land nearby.
Orange County added a rule for that zone on March 1, 2025. Say you apply for a repair or modification permit on a standard system. If your lot is under 1 acre, the system must be upgraded. The new system has to remove at least 65% of the nitrogen.
New systems face a state rule too. A 2023 state law, House Bill 1379, adds another layer. It covers new septic on lots of 1 acre or less in state cleanup areas. Those systems must reduce nitrogen.
How Do You Check if Your Lot Is in the Springs Zone?
Try Orange County’s online lookup tool on its Septic Pollution Prevention page. Enter your address to see if the property sits inside the zone. We also check your parcel before we quote any repair, so there are no surprises at permit time.
Do Apopka Homes Need an ATU?
Some do. A lot under 1 acre inside the zone may face an upgrade when it needs a repair permit. An aerobic treatment unit is one of the common ways to meet it. Lots outside the zone, or larger lots, can often keep a standard system.
What Does Apopka ATU Installation Involve?
Every Apopka ATU installation starts with a soil test and a site plan. Next comes the county permit. The crew then sets the unit and runs power for the air pump. They also install an alarm you can see and hear. An inspector checks the work before it is covered.
Most installs take a few days on site once the permit is approved. We walk you through the unit, the alarm and your service schedule before we leave.
What Does an ATU Need After It Is Installed?
More upkeep than a standard tank. Florida requires a maintenance contract for every aerobic unit. The first contract must run at least 2 years, and each renewal at least 1 year. Homes get an inspection twice a year. The service company must respond to an emergency within 36 hours. You also need an operating permit from the health department.
That steady upkeep is the trade off for cleaner water leaving your yard.
Upgrades cost more, but help may be available.
Can a $10,000 Grant Help Pay for an Upgrade?
Possibly. Orange County’s Septic Upgrade Incentive Program pays up to $10,000 toward a nitrogen reducing system. To qualify, the home must sit in the Wekiwa springs zone and in Orange County Utilities sewer territory. Sewer must also be more than 5 years away. The grant mostly covers the price gap between a standard system and the upgrade.
By March 2026, the program had 887 inquiries. Of those, 467 homes qualified and 87 projects were approved. Homes billed by the City of Apopka utility may not qualify, so check first.
For some neighborhoods, the county is going further than upgrades.
Is Your Apopka Area Neighborhood Moving to Sewer?
Orange County is moving about 2,000 homes in the Apopka and Wekiwa area from septic to sewer. The work runs in 7 phases, costs about $140 million and could last into 2028. By August 2025, nearly 600 families had switched. The county and state pay about 90% of the cost. Owners pay $6,000 to $7,500 through property taxes over 10 years.
Sweetwater West and Wekiwa Highlands are done, and The Palms neighborhoods followed. Phase 4 covers Rolling Oaks, Carlton Oaks and Carlton Woods, about 396 homes. About 75% of those owners voted yes. A fifth phase covering more neighborhoods was expected to start in 2026.
Inside city limits, the City of Apopka runs its own water and sewer utility. Its billing office is at 407-703-1727.
Should You Repair Your Septic if Sewer Is Coming?
Ask first. Is a sewer line a year or two away? Then a small repair may be enough to get you there. Once the line is ready, Florida gives you 365 days to connect after written notice. If your system needs a repair at that point, you have 90 days.
Where Do You Get a Septic Permit in Apopka?
Permits come from the Florida Department of Health in Orange County. Local owners can use the newer Ocoee office at 475 Story Road, Suite 1. The Orlando office on Executive Center Drive also takes septic work. Call 407-858-1497 for either one. We handle the forms, the site plan and the inspection booking.
Which Warning Signs Should Apopka Owners Watch?
Slow drains, gurgling pipes and sewage smells are the usual first clues. Wet, bright green grass over the field is another. On an aerobic unit, a constant alarm or a quiet air pump means trouble. Call early, especially inside the zone, so a small fix stays small.
How Much Does Septic Work Cost in Apopka?
A routine cleaning costs far less than a field repair or a new system. Inside the zone, an upgrade costs more than a standard repair. The county grant can close part of that gap if you qualify. Aerobic units also carry yearly service contract costs. We put every price in writing before we start.
