What Septic Work Do Winter Garden Properties Need?

This city mixes old citrus land, new subdivisions and a busy downtown. That means 4 kinds of calls: routine pumping, new tank installs, grease trap service for restaurants and repairs. Each section below explains the job and links to a full page.

Winter Garden Septic Tank Pumping

Book a Winter Garden septic tank pump out every 3 to 5 years for most homes. A 1,000 gallon tank with four people in the house sits closer to 3. A retired couple on the same tank can often wait longer.

On each visit we measure the sludge and scum. Then we tell you when to call again, based on your tank, not a calendar guess. We also check the outlet filter and the baffles while the lid is open.

Septic Tank Installation in Winter Garden

New homes on large lots past the city sewer lines need a full system. So do older homes whose tanks have cracked or rusted out. Every septic tank installation Winter Garden owners book starts with a soil test and a county permit.

Tanks must be concrete, fiberglass or plastic, and approved by the state. Most new tanks have two chambers and an outlet filter. On some lots the county may ask for a nitrogen reducing design. We explain which one your lot needs before you sign anything.

Winter Garden Grease Trap Service for Plant Street Restaurants

Downtown cafes, breweries and restaurants send a lot of grease down the drain. Our Winter Garden grease trap service pumps the trap, scrapes the walls and checks the baffles. You get a written log for every visit, which inspectors often ask to see.

How often depends on your kitchen. A common rule is to pump before grease and food solids fill a quarter of the trap. Busy kitchens may need that every month. Restaurants on septic instead of sewer need a grease interceptor of at least 750 gallons under state rules.

Drain Fields, Pumps and Repairs

We fix broken lids, cracked baffles, failed lift pumps and worn drain fields. A field that floods after every storm may need new lines or a raised design. We dig and test before we quote, so the fix matches the problem.

Is Your Winter Garden Home on City Sewer or Septic?

Many homes inside city limits are on city sewer. The city runs its own wastewater plant on Crest Avenue, next to Lake Apopka. Homes on the edge of town, older pockets and rural lots nearby often still use septic. Check your utility bill. A sewer charge means you are on the city line.

Why Are Winter Garden Sewer Bills Going Up?

The city is spending about $132.6 million to upgrade and expand its sewer plant. Roughly $99.5 million of that comes from new state rules for cleaner treated water. Work runs from early 2025 through 2028.

To pay for it, sewer rates rise in steps. Bills went up 17% in January 2025 and 20% in October 2025. Another 20% follows in 2027, then 7% in each of 2028 and 2029. The average bill moves from about $46 to a projected $89.53 by October 2029. Septic owners do not pay these sewer charges, but they handle their own upkeep.

Do You Have to Connect When Sewer Reaches Your Street?

Yes, in most cases. Florida law gives you 365 days to connect after the utility sends written notice. If your septic system needs a repair or a change, you get 90 days instead. Ask the city about planned lines before you spend money on a major septic job.

If you are staying on septic, the next step for any big job is a permit.

Where Do Winter Garden Owners Get Septic Permits?

From the Florida Department of Health in Orange County. On August 3, 2026, the department opened a new office at 475 Story Road, Suite 1, in Ocoee. It handles septic applications and is open weekdays from 8 to 5. That is a short drive from downtown.

The main office is still at 1001 Executive Center Drive in Orlando. Both use the same phone, 407-858-1497. Orange County does not post its septic fee list online, so call for current amounts. We file every permit for our customers and schedule the inspection.

The permit tells you how to build. The rules tell you what you may build.

What Septic Rules Apply in Winter Garden?

Florida septic rules sit in Chapter 62-6 of the state code, run by FDEP since 2021. Orange County adds springs rules for one area: the Wekiwa and Rock Springs priority focus area. That zone covers parts of Apopka and Ocoee, not Winter Garden itself.

Inside that zone, repairs on lots under 1 acre now trigger a nitrogen reducing upgrade. Orange County also offers a grant of up to $10,000 there. To qualify, a home must sit in the zone and in Orange County Utilities sewer territory. Most homes here are served by the city instead, so few qualify.

The 2023 state law, House Bill 1379, may still apply on small lots. It requires nitrogen reducing systems for new septic on lots of 1 acre or less in state cleanup areas. Ask us to check your parcel before you design a new system.

How Do Lake Apopka and Summer Rain Affect Your System?

Lake Apopka forms the city’s northern edge, and many lots sit close to the water. Low ground near the lake and in old grove land holds water after big storms. A drain field needs dry soil below it to treat wastewater. When the ground fills up, toilets slow down and the yard turns soggy.

After heavy rain, cut back on laundry and long showers for a few days. Do not schedule a pump out while the yard is flooded. A light, empty tank can lift in saturated soil and crack its pipes. If your field floods every summer, a raised field may be the lasting fix.

What Signs Point to a Septic Problem?

Watch for slow drains in more than one room. Gurgling toilets and a sewage smell near the lid are next. A patch of extra green grass over the field can mean wastewater is reaching the surface. If a pump alarm sounds, cut water use and call.

Calling at the first sign usually means a smaller bill.

How Much Does Septic Service Cost in Winter Garden?

Prices depend on the job, the tank size and access to the lid. Long driveways, fenced yards and buried lids add time. New installs cost more on lots that need fill or a nitrogen reducing unit. Grease trap pricing depends on trap size and how often you book.

Call (321) 872-9877 →

Does My Winter Garden Address Have City Sewer?

Look at your utility bill. A sewer line item means you are connected. No sewer charge usually means a septic tank. You can also call the city utility billing office with your address.

How Often Does a Plant Street Restaurant Need Grease Trap Service?

It depends on the trap size and how busy the kitchen is. Many restaurants pump monthly or quarterly. A good rule is to pump before grease and solids fill 25% of the trap. Check the city’s grease rules for your exact schedule.

Where Do I File a Septic Installation Permit Nearby?

With the Florida Department of Health in Orange County. The new Ocoee office at 475 Story Road takes septic applications. You can also use the Orlando office. Both answer at 407-858-1497.

Can I Get the Orange County $10,000 Septic Grant in Winter Garden?

Probably not. The grant covers homes in the Wekiwa springs zone that sit in Orange County Utilities sewer territory. Most local homes are outside that zone or on city service.

What Septic System Is Best for a Lot Near Lake Apopka?

It depends on your soil test and water table. Low lots often need a raised drain field. Parcels of 1 acre or less in a state cleanup area may need a nitrogen reducing system.

Do I Need a Septic Inspection to Refinance?

Some lenders ask for one, especially on older homes. Florida does not require it statewide. An inspection report shows the tank size, condition and field health in one document.
